Welfare/TANF

Welfare. Welfare is used to help families in need of assistance with money. A program that helps with this is the TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) There is a controversy as to how strict the eligibility and requirements should be to be able to receive assistance. This is because as you can see in the picture that I have up there, the number of welfare recipients are getting higher and higher. Although there are people that abuse the program for free money or drug use, there are actual people that need the help to be able to get food on their table everyday. For example in my mothers case. My mother is a single mother whose children have all grown up. But one is still a child on the inside, in his brain. My father left when we were in our teens, which is the worst time. My father did not think that this would affect anyone but it did. It affected my mother, not only because they have been married since forever, but because of my brother. My brother is mentally retarded and needs to be watched 24/7. Because of this with no help of my dad, my mother cannot work. She gets about $300 from my brothers SSI to pay the rent, but how can she get food? My mother would go to food banks but sometimes it was not enough. So she was able to qualify for welfare. Welfare saved us from hunger. My mother would love to work, but in the circumstance that she is in, she cannot.
So in a case like that I think that those people should be eligible to receive welfare because how else are they supposed to get money for food. As for the people that use welfare money for drugs (by selling the debit card) they should be required to take drug tests because there are people that want to take away the welfare program because of the drug use, which could hurt lots of families in need if they took the welfare program away.

Birth Control

One HUGE topic that should not be that big of a deal is one for the ladies. Birth control. When should it ever be a man's decision to choose what women can and can't do to their bodies?

In order to promote and preserve or democratic republic is by letting us women choose what we want to do with our bodies. Although birth control is a big issue, it should not be. I just do not see what the big deal is about birth control. It is NOT abortion. Birth control is to prevent having babies. Even now birth control is not just used to control having "birth" but it is also for people to regulate their period, clear acne, reduce cramps, reduce the risk of ovarian cysts, and reduces the risk of osteoporosis. Birth control is never used to "kill" fetuses, that is called abortion and that is a different process. I think that birth control should be a woman's choice not the choice of a man. If men were able to get pregnant, then they would know the reason why women are not against contraception.
But what I don't see clearly is why it is such a big issue for people. Another example that I am going to use is Rick Santorum.
Rick Santorum seems to have a big issue with contraception. When he was in the presidential debate, he said that states should be free to ban birth control because prenatal testing leads to abortion and that as president, he would warn the nation about the "danger of contraception." Well doesn't this seem reasonable? It doesn't.

I chose this comic for this topic because it is just funny to me how some men think that they know what is best for women. Men will never know what it is like to be a real women and what goes on with their body so what gives them the right to choose what we do with it? None. They should not have ANY right to tell us what to do with ourselves. Birth control is not here to hurt anyone, it is like a vaccination it is to prevent something so no one could get hurt.

Gun Laws

How is it that people cannot seem to agree on gun laws?

So my main issue on this post is gun laws. Why is it that people cannot seem to agree on gun laws, we all know
that guns are bad and are capable to killing anything and anyone, but I guess you could say that all depends on

the person holding the gun. Guns should be used for professional use for people that are the police or in the

military. So why? Okay, so one of the amendments of course is the "Right to bear arms." I feel that when this

was written as a part of the Constitution times were different. Nowadays people seem to be getting crazier and

crazier (not to say that there weren't crazy people in the Constitution days, there were). People are overusing the

main purpose of guns. Yes they are meant to kill, but for defending purposes when in danger, or in other cases

when you live in the wild and need to put food on the table. More and more people are dying because of guns.

For example, the cartoon above show that there isn't really an answer as to how many people are dying because

of guns. It seems that something is being finally done just a bit here in my state of Colorado, Yahoo News

states, "Colorado's governor will sign three gun control bills into law on Wednesday, including one banning

ammunition magazines with more than 15 rounds in a state that has experienced two of the deadliest mass

shootings in U.S. history." This is a step. I believe that gun usage needs to be controlled. These mass killings

cannot be continued. Only pistols should be the only guns that could be used as a self defense gun, besides that

I think all other guns should be gone and out of the hands of EVERYONE! (of course except police, military, etc.)

Also, there should be enforced background checks and mental evaluation and history.

The government needs to find a solution to this problem. Guns are only hurting this country!

Growing Up & the 2012 Election

Growing up I never really paid attention to politics because my parents did read into it as much as the others around us. Now that I am older and cartoons are not the only thing I watch on television anymore , politics is something that I simply cannot avoid. From the day I turned 18 the first thing that came to mind is " I can now vote." As the election day came closer and closer, I thought " who am I really going to vote for, I need to find out more information on these guys." Most of the ads I saw on television was one person bashing another person, rarely getting any information on what exactly these people wanted to change. But what I did see was the main points of who wanted what for this country. Romney wanted more jobs and Obama wanted to raise the taxes for the rich and create a good health care system.

 Obama's ad: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/politics/political-ad-tracker/video/848245/barack-obama-trust

Romney's ad: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/politics/political-ad-tracker/video/848220/mitt-romney-facts-are-clear

So what can I say? Campaigns are sometimes childish.
